DON’T forget an umbrella. Rainstorms seem to occur out of nowhere with the heaviest of raindrops.
DON’T eat at any of the chain restaurants.
DO find a local restaurant that looks busy – especially if it’s rundown – and head on inside.
DO wander the residential streets along Historic Downtown and take in their Southern charm.
DO visit the music shops and antique stores.
DON’T take too much cash. Many of the items, though cool to see, are overpriced at the antique shops and you don’t want to overspend.
DO try the local seafood, whether along the water or in the city, as long as it’s a fresh catch.
DON’T skip the Bellamy Mansion. Even if you don’t tour the inside, take a bit of time to walk the outside and admire the woodwork and details.
DON’T stay too far outside of the historic downtown unless you’re wanting to pay to park along one of the streets. It’s easiest to stay close and walk, but if you do drive downtown try to park closer to the residential areas where there’s more parking (but not in the residential areas).
